What is ‘Hair Botox’? Everything you need to know about the super-smoothing hair treatment

Published on 21 February 2022 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

First thing’s first: although the name might suggest otherwise – ‘Hair Botox’ doesn’t actually involve Botox, or injectables of any kind. In reality – Hair Botox is an intensive conditioning treatment, with highly active ingredients, that repairs damaged and weak hair. The treatment smoothes and softens hair, just as Botox does for skin (hence the nickname). Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know.

      1 What is hair botox?

Hair Botox is a restorative and smoothing hair treatment that repairs damaged hair and damaged hair fibers. A combination of ingredients (such as caviar oil, antioxidants, vitamin B5, vitamin E, and collagen) repairs and nourishes damaged hair – moisturizing, softening, and smoothing. The treatment is suitable for all hair types and the result is visible and tangible for three to four months.

      2 What are the benefits?

Unlike a keratin treatment, hair botox is a non-chemical, deeply nourishing treatment that smoothes the hair and prevents frizz. A keratin treatment often contains the chemical smoothing formaldehyde, whist hair botox nourishes the hair with natural ingredients. The composition of the ingredients varies, but often contains caviar oil, antioxidants, vitamins B5 and E, and a collagen complex.

Caviar oil contains vitamins and antioxidants that fight free radicals and oxidative stress. Collagen is made up of proteins and is essential for dry, damaged, or brittle hair (a diet rich in protein is most effective, but hair can also get protein from care products). Nourished and hydrated hair is bouncier, more elastic, and less prone to breakage. When your hair is dull and dry to the touch, hair botox can give it that soft and shiny feel.

3 Who is it suitable for?

Hair Botox is safe for all hair types, as it doesn’t contain any damaging chemicals or ingredients. Moreover – all hair types appreciate a good conditioning treatment, and all hair needs protein and hydration – so really, there’s no hair type that won’t improve. You’ll reap the benefits most, though, if you have dry, damaged, or dull hair; or thinner hair which could do with some added volume – as it’ll add smoothness and shine and reduce frizz.

4 How is hair botox applied?

Depending on the product, you can use hair botox at home; but it’s best left to a professional. After washing and drying your hair completely, the product is applied along the length of your hair. After 30 minutes (or the indicated time), the product is rinsed out – the hair can then be styled.

    FAQs

What is hair botox and how does it work?

Hair botox is an intensive conditioning treatment that repairs and smoothes damaged hair using natural ingredients. It combines elements like caviar oil, antioxidants, vitamin B5, vitamin E, and collagen to nourish, moisturise, and soften all hair types. Results last for three to four months, leaving hair softer, smoother and shinier.

Who can benefit most from hair botox?

Anyone with dry, damaged, dull, or thin hair can benefit the most from hair botox. It works on all hair types, but the treatment especially adds smoothness, shine, and volume for hair in need of hydration and protein. Even healthy hair can see improvements in softness and manageability.

How does hair botox differ from a keratin treatment?

Hair botox is a non-chemical, deeply nourishing treatment, while many keratin treatments use chemical smoothers like formaldehyde. Ingredients in hair botox, such as caviar oil and collagen, provide natural hydration and protection. This makes it a gentler option for clients seeking healthier, shinier hair without harsh chemicals.

How is hair botox applied to your hair?

Hair botox is applied after washing and fully drying your hair. The product is distributed along the length, left on for around 30 minutes (or as indicated), rinsed out and then styled. It’s possible to use at home but is best applied by a professional for optimal results.

How long do the effects of hair botox last?

The effects of hair botox last for three to four months. During this time, hair remains softer, smoother and more manageable thanks to the intense nourishment from the treatment’s key ingredients.
