The nails to wear with your Halloween costume (and all the way into November)

Published on 24 October 2019 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

Personally, I’m of the belief that Halloween is not just a day, it’s a feeling. I’ve been listening to Rihanna – Disturbia for weeks and have developed a minor addiction to Haribo Scaremix. Whether you’re a one-day-only or an all-spooky-season-long kinda person, these nails will coordinate with your costume and are totally wearable afterwards. Think of them like Jeykll and Hyde.

    • 1 If you're dressing as: An alien

      Go with: Chrome

Fancy dress has lead me to believe that everything in space is metallic – and an alien’s mani is obviously no different. Chrome powder is rubbed over cured gel polish with an eyeshadow applicator to get that mirrored effect. V extra-terrestrial. V Area 51.

    • 2 If you're dressing as: A zombie bride

      Go with: Ombre

Forget the zombie part, bridal means classic glam and classic glam means ombre. Not one for natural nails, ombre – also known as ‘baby boomer nails’ – uses acrylic to get a soft fade from white to nude. Add metallic embellishments for a little something extra.

    • 3 If you're dressing as: A vampire

      Go with: French drip

I know what you’re thinking, these are too “Halloween-y” to wear into November. Well, you’re wrong, “French drip” is now a certified Instagram-trend – thanks to Kylie Jenner’s post last month. Came through drippin’.

    • 4 If you're dressing as: A clown

      Go with: Red

Pennywise – from It – is 2019’s top-searched costume, according to Google, which is literally my worst nightmare. Yes, I hate clowns. I feel like Pennywise is a red, stiletto kinda clown – you just get a feel for these things, you know?

    FAQs

Which nail style is best if you’re dressing as an alien?

Go for a chrome finish to create an extra-terrestrial, metallic look. Chrome powder is applied over cured gel polish using an eyeshadow applicator for a mirrored effect, making it perfect for a space-inspired costume.

What nail design should you choose for a zombie bride costume?

Choose an ombre design, which is also called baby boomer nails, for a soft fade from white to nude. This look uses acrylic to achieve a classic glam style and can be made extra special with metallic embellishments.

Which nails match a vampire-themed outfit?

Opt for a French drip style, a trending look often featured on Instagram. The “French drip” combines a classic French manicure with dripping details for a dramatic effect that works for Halloween and beyond.

What nail colour works if you dress as a clown?

Pick a red nail polish, especially in a stiletto shape, to channel the iconic Pennywise clown look. Red nails capture the bold, statement vibe associated with clown costumes and are a nod to one of the most popular clown characters.

Can you wear these Halloween nails after the holiday?

Yes, styles like French drip and chrome nails are versatile enough to wear beyond Halloween. These designs have trendy, wearable elements that transition easily from costume to everyday looks.
