This is what the Treatwell team have been doing in isolation

Published on 2 April 2020 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

Despite what the internet says, you don’t need to leave this isolation period with 20 new skills, fluent in Spanish and a master of the kitchen. These weird times can have a real impact on your mental wellbeing, so take time to do things that make you feel good. That’s what Treatwellers have been up to.

I'm exfoliating and hydrating my whole body religiously ready for fake tan season (praying it'll be safe to go out by then). I usually cram this into a week and end up never fully happy with the finish. Also, it means I have time to work on any annoying ingrown hairs. Sorry, was this meant to be sexy?

I’ve picked up two hobbies since isolation began; baking (I literally can’t stop) and masking – skin, hair, anything else you can possibly mask. I’ve been bleaching my hair for years so, as you can imagine, it’s in need of some TLC (in the form of Olaplex). Daily masks are also helping me on my journey towards mochi skin, which I will obviously have achieved by the time normal life resumes.

I normally get a massage every couple of weeks (sounds extra, I know, but sitting at a desk all day + working out a lot = muscle pain). I’ve added foam-rolling into my workout routine, I do it for about 15 minutes after exercising. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a love-hate relationship – AKA, it hurts – but its helping to loosen my tight muscles while salons are closed.

I’m adding retinol back into my skincare routine. I tried it a couple of months ago but my skin got really dry and flaky (which is actually normal at first). Now I’m not leaving the house, I don’t mind a little flakiness. I’m upping my water intake, applying moisturiser a few times a day and powering through.

I’ve taken to starting my day with a facial massage. I do it for about 10 minutes with some rosehip oil (sounds like a long time to be prodding your face but it feels so damn good). I usually wake up with achy sinuses and head – massage seems to give me immediate relief. I’m obviously also hoping that when I’m in my sixties I’ll have the skin of a 25-year old.

    FAQs

How can you take care of your skin at home during isolation?

Daily routines like exfoliating, hydrating, and masking can support your skin’s health while you’re at home. Using products like scrubs, moisturisers and face masks helps address issues such as dryness and ingrown hairs. Consistent care makes a difference to your skin’s look and feel, especially with more time available.

What are some effective ways to relax muscles when salons are closed?

Adding foam-rolling after workouts for about 15 minutes can help ease muscle tightness and pain. It may be uncomfortable at first, but it effectively loosens tight muscles if you usually rely on regular massages and can’t access them during salon closures.

How do you manage dry skin when starting retinol?

Increasing your water intake and applying moisturiser several times a day can help protect against retinol-induced dryness and flakiness. Experiencing dry or flaky skin is normal at first, but supporting your skin with extra hydration allows you to continue reaping the benefits of retinol, especially when spending time indoors.

What at-home habits can help prepare for fake tan season?

Consistently exfoliating and hydrating your whole body helps achieve a smoother finish for fake tan. Taking extra care of ingrown hairs and spreading the routine over several weeks leads to better tanning results and can improve your overall skin texture.

How can a facial massage help your morning routine?

A 10-minute facial massage with oil can deliver immediate relief from achy sinuses and head in the mornings. This method not only feels pleasant but may also contribute to keeping your skin looking youthful and vibrant over time.
