It’s cool to be your usual undone self on your wedding day

Published on 29 April 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

If you’re a low maintenance, off-duty kind of girl when it comes to your hair, then an overly structured updo on your wedding day just isn’t going to cut it. But how to strike a balance between scruffy and elegantly undone? Because although those perfectly tousled just-rolled-out-of-bed looks we see on Instagram might look achingly accidental, best believe there’s some serious coiffing that goes on behind the scenes.

From low slung ponies to undone braids and flowing tendrils, nowadays more and more brides are opting for low-key hair on their wedding day, but if you have the budget, it’s worth putting this insouciant hair in the hands of a stylist.

Looking for a bit of pre-wedding inspiration before you get started? Here’s a collection of some of our favourite undone wedding looks to add to your Pinterest moodboard (because we know you already have one…) And if you’re feeling seriously organised, why not pick a few and ask your stylist to trial them out on you ahead of time? If anything, it’s a great excuse to go for post-salon cocktails with your bridesmaids. Wouldn’t want a good hair day to go to waste would we?

    FAQs

What are some popular options for undone wedding hair?

Low slung ponies, undone braids and flowing tendrils are popular choices for undone wedding hair. These styles give a relaxed, elegant look that feels effortless while still being beautifully styled.

Should you hire a stylist for low-key wedding hair?

Hiring a professional stylist for low-key wedding hair is worth considering if you have the budget. Even relaxed looks, like tousled waves or undone braids, often require skill and technique to achieve a polished yet effortless finish.

How can you prepare inspiration for your wedding hair trial?

It’s helpful to collect images of your favourite undone wedding looks before your trial. Adding these to a Pinterest moodboard makes it easy to share ideas and preferences with your stylist.

Can you do a wedding hair trial before the big day?

Yes, you can and should ask your stylist to trial a few looks on you ahead of your wedding. A trial helps you see how each style works for you, and gives you confidence in your final choice.
